Las Coloradas, the Pink Lake of Mexico: The Ultimate Travel Guide
Why is the water pink?
The color is 100% natural. It is caused by a high concentration of microorganisms, specifically the microalgae Dunaliella salina and halobacteria. These organisms produce red pigments to protect themselves from the intense sunlight. When combined with the high salinity of the water, they create that iconic bubblegum pink hue.
